Family Friday's #25 Charu

Family Fridays #25 CharuHappy Friday everyone! I hope you are all just as excited as we are for today's Family Friday's guest.Charu is joining us from Ketchup Moms. Her blog is all about looking at life through a multicolored lens. Today, she is sharing a little about her family and what makes them unique.

Tell me a little about yourself

Well I am a small town girl married and settled in one of India’s fastest growing metro.
I have enjoyed 10+ years as a copy writer and have worked on the some fanciest brands in India - Pepsi, Slice, Lay’s, Hero Honda and more. Now, I am enjoying a blissful married life and am learning a chapter a day on parenting my twins- a boy and a girl. If you were to break in to my house at midnight you will find me either writing an article or marketing it. Yes, I am a happy co-founder of KetchupMoms, an online lifestyle and parenting magazine.

Where did you and your spouse grow up

My spouse is a typical city bred person. He loves his Delhi summers (35c to 45c) and loves a beach or a city holiday. In contrast I have been brought up in India’s famous hill station called Shimla. I remember walking to my school, plucking wild flowers and even chatting up strangers. Needless to say, I love winters and temperatures below 21c.

What was it that first attracted you to your spouse?

Simplicity and honesty. The very values I admire up to this date.

Do you and your spouse have similar personalities or very different?

We are chalk and cheese in more ways than one. He is honest, calm and non-diplomatic. I am a storyteller, I am the person u need to call when u need a good excuse. But I would like to believe that I am a good human being.
Family Friday's #25 Puneeta

What makes your family unique from other families?

Well, we have a history of twins in our family. My paternal grandmother had an identical twin. in my husband’s side his paternal uncle and aunt have twins. And even one of the twins further has twin daughters. little surprise then that we have twins too.

Does your family have any unique traditions?

Every Diwali my mother makes Goddess Lakshmi’s feet from the gate to the pooja room in our house. She grinds some rice with water to makes a radiant white colour and then makes these perfectly shaped feet with it. After marriage I started this tradition in my in-law’s house too.

Will you continue this tradition in your own family?

I have continued this tradition in my own family and everyone looks forward to helping me. it is physically a little tiring but well worth the smiles and beauty.

What is one piece of advice you have to share with other families?

There are no perfect families. So don’t chase that thought. Just try and pass on the good things you have inherited from your elders. And pray like hell that the naughty genes give your kids a miss.

Intercultural Couples: Why Should You Cook For Your Loved One?

This post is sponsored by Saffron Fix. As always all my opinions expressed here are my own.

As a wife in an intercultural relationship, I can tell you making food from a culture so new to me can be intimidating. When I first started making Indian food for our family, I had no idea what I was doing. The first time I made chicken curry was a disaster and to be really honest, I wasn't extremely motivated to keep trying. There are so many couples out there facing similar situations. They want to learn to make the food their loved one grew up with, but they're intimidated and tend to give up early. Homemade Chicken Tikka Masala with Rice and NaanTaking the time to learn how to make food from your loved one's childhood means more than you think.

It shows your spouse you love them.

When you take the time to learn something new, it reminds your spouse how much you love them. Sometimes, you need to go beyond just saying "I love you," and actually show them.

It brings you and your spouse together.

Food has always been the thing to bridge cultures and bring people together. Whether you're eating or cooking together, you're putting everything else on hold and making each other the priority.

It reminds your spouse you want to blend cultures.

Blending cultures in your food is a great idea because it means you're both experiencing it together. Every bite you have and every minute you take to prepare the dish, is another moment you're blending cultures in your family. ---You can see how important it is to blend cultures in your family meals, but don't let it intimidate you. All you need to do is ask for help. If this is you and you're looking for a little help to learn how to make authentic dishes for your family, Saffron Fix is the answer._MG_6655Saffron Fix is a meal-kit service that will send you everything you need to make delicious Indian dishes in no time! All you need to do is go to their site, choose from mouth watering recipes, and checkout. They'll send you a box full of pre-chopped ingredients, authentic spices, and the recipes. All of the meals are ready in under thirty minutes!Whether you want to learn how to make authentic Indian dishes or need quick and easy meals throughout the week, Saffron Fix is for you. snappa_1458441676
